ogg vorbis is an audio format like mp3, but free and better (mp3 is not free. to make software to make mp3s, you have to pay the company that owns the patent to it)

it's also better audio quality for the same size, and inherently gapless (no pause between tracks) if the software is written right

i put linux on my ipod and they just added functioning software to play ogg music files -- something many (geeks)people have been wanting for the ipod for a long time.

Ooh, excellent!
I just wish there was an easy peasy way to install it on the 4G...

I actually re-downloaded/encoded a couple of gigs worth of OGGs after I bought my iPod. Oh, sad day.

i have a 40gb photo
a photo is a 4G with a color screen.
i could walk you through the steps to put it on
but the ogg playback isn't integrated into the normal interface; you have to use the file browser and there's no next/previous track (or, for that matter, automatic track advancement: it just plays one song you select then stops) or fast forward/rewind yet, nor is it reading any of the track metadata like artist or title

but it plays songs, which means the rest can't be far off
