music: Goldfrapp - - 2 - Lovely Head

"They once again took MTV and modern rock radio by storm, this time with a long and tedious single called Paranoid Android. It was basically Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, weirded up about 80% and without the element of irony that made it at least bearable as something to smirk at."

"Better yet, feel free to just weep in your goddamned Livejournal about it instead."

so I will!

Good article. Clever. Well written. Brave. Funny.

However, I too regard myself somewhat of an authority on music ::looks down nose::, and I can safely say I liked Radiohead without any of the mentioned press interventions. Everyone has to be introduced to a band in some way, and if the way you're introduced is going to be the determining factor of whether you're a pretentious prick or not, then the whole thing is bullshit. I like Radiohead because they're good. Even Radiohead fans say that kid A has no tunes. Mr. take-a-dump-on-radiohead is saying nothing new there. Obviously though, both he and radiohead fans are wrong. Kid A has tunes. How to Dissapear Completely certainly has a tune. Learn something about music for chrissake. Besides, critics like him aren't the authority on music, musicians are. The only thing he knows how to do is how to EFFECTIVELY say that radiohead sucks and present a good argument, rather than just saying they're bad (the opposite of the way he says he likes his favorite band simply because they are "good"). So, even though he's obviously a moron when it comes to actually critiquing music, he's a very interesting and clever writer. That's what critics are good for. He can't write a song and say, "now THIS is how it should be done."

Even though it would seem like he has balls to write an article about Radiohead sucking...He has no balls, he should mention HIS favorite band, eh?

I really should get much angrier when people imply that I should like Something Awful. Irony just isn't that hot.
