Teens having oral sex?! Adults having anal sex?!

I don't know if any of you have seen the bunch of news articles on this sex study that came out a few days ago (hey gender study people, pay attention), but the main theme in the articles has been, to paraphrase, "holy shit! teens are having more oral sex than intercourse! Girls are receiving oral sex and have had as much as boys have! Teen society is changing!" (Caitlin, care to comment?) To see the articles, take a look at this time article and this la times article. Another interesting point is that the teens most likely to have oral sex are well-to do white teenagers from educated families. I think many of you can comment on these results. But, one thing all these articles ignore is that, and I quote,
"For males, the proportion who have had anal sex with a female increases from 4.6 percent at age 15 to 34 percent at ages 22–24; for females, the proportion who have had anal sex with a male increases from 2.4 percent at age 15 to 32 percent at age 22–24." One in three women admits to having had anal sex by age 24. By ages 25 to 44, the percentages rise to 40 for men and 35 for women."
Slate does an excellent job of discussing this phenomenon (both the anal sex and the media's utter and deliberate ignorance of it) and I suggest you read their article.

This article is inherently heterocentric. I'm just sayin'. It doesn't exactly bother me.

Although I do love both oral AND anal sex. Does this make me special?

for statistics that are looking at general changes in the behavior of teenagers, it's going to be heterocentric. there are just a lot more hetero teenagers than homo teenagers, and these statistics are interested in the majority.

that said, the slate article did mention that, according to the survey, "3.7 percent of men aged 15 to 44 [have] had anal sex with other men."
also, the time article said that
Another surprise: about 11% of girls 15 to 19 say they have had at least one same-sex encounter--the same percentage that was found in women 18 to 44. (The biggest proportion, 14%, was among women 18 to 29.) You would expect the numbers to rise steadily, if slowly, as women have more opportunities to have such encounters. That they don't suggests that same-sex behavior is more acceptable among teenagers than it used to be.
