'Sup y'all mateys. After nearly a year since the last "release" of my little sync/backup program Yarg, I'm puttin' out a new version! Since my last release, carbon copy cloner has ripped off my idea (kidding) and switched from psync to rsync , and the other pirate themed rsync gui arrsync has come out and been abandoned. Still, I think mine is the coolest. This is why:

  • you can sync to remote machines (with keys)
  • it's super simple (man CCC is complicateddd and bulky)
  • it's easy to sync one specific directory to another
  • it's unobtrusive
  • it's customizable
  • it's OPEN SORES!!!1

There's a decent amount more spit and polish in this release than there was last time, but it's still a bit rough around the edges. For the next release I really want to get running jobs with administrator privileges working, upgrade to an included copy of rsync 3, and show a progress bar while a sync is in running. In the future I hope to allow syncing with remote computers without keys by prompting for the username and password of the other machine. But that's hecka complicated.

I've got me a fun little trac with a bug list and everything. It's also got a wiki, so I want to write up a few guides on doing nifty things, like syncing static websites or backing up your home directory to dreamhost.

I don't have a Mac, but I honestly couldn't not download it after visiting the website. A+!
